Welcome to my web site. Here you will find valuable information on my Guide Service on the Lower Sacramento River in the Redding area of Northern California.

Spring is here, well at least for a while. It won't be long before the air temperature is hot, remember though that the water temps are always cool.

Good News, the Redd Bluff Diversion dam is soon to be no more. This year it will only operate for a few weeks in June, July and August. Some $148 million in "Stimulus" money has been set aside to replace it with a pumping station. Fish moving upstream will no longer have the barrier in place. It means that some species that simply do not use the fish ladders will now move upstream, these include Shad and Stripe Bass. It's already accepted that many of the Steelhead and Salmon refuse to use the fish ladders. So maybe Shad in Redding? Now there's a thought!

This Spring the fishing has been good with some really good days and few poor days. As shown here the humble Barry Bead has been working well for me, but a Birds Nest can help as well. I usually use the bead first and a weighted fly on the dropper. I believe that this way if helps to keep the flies closer to the feeding zone of the fish.

I am planning some YouTube instructional videos, my first test video is up, you can see it at :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1krEEnqrNIA

Please remember this is raw video and just a test, but fun to see a double hook-up.

My very popular "Barry Beads" and my very special "Communicator", otherwise known as a indicator are now available for you to purchase, just go the the "Buy Stuff" menu item above to read more about them and to find prices etc. If they are not available from your local Fly Shop, then you can order directly from me. If you are a indicator fisherman then you really should do your self a favor and try my "Communicator". I have never had anyone who wanted to go back to yarn after trying these.

  • I specialize in "Drift Boat Trips" on the Lower Sacramento river which is in beautiful Northern California.
  • I can give tuition to novices and coaching to the more experienced.
  • My Drift Boat is a 20 foot Fishrite which can fish up to three persons, it is one of the largest around and is very comfortable to fly fish from.
  • I have equipment available for you if you need it.
  • Fishing on the Lower Sac is normally best done with a indicator. I usually supply my own patented design. See Indicators under Equipment Menu.
  • The fish on the Lower Sac can be very large, Rainbows up to 10lbs, although my clients have landed one or two of these fabulous fish up to 13lbs.
  • The Lower Sacramento river is open year round and fishes well every month of the year.
  • There are not only Rainbow Trout on the Lower Sacramento River, but numerous Steelhead at times.
