Using a Barry Bead is very simple indeed. Just take the tippet of the desired length and thread it through the hole in the bead. Wrap it around and thread it through two more times as seen the picture above. Do not tighten the tippet yet.
Tie a suitable fly to one end of the tippet, the other end of the tippet should of course be tied to your leader, using your favorite knot. You then want to position the Barry Bead about 4 inches away from the fly. Then carefully pull the tippet tight so that the bead stays in place. Please check with your local regs as to the distance the Barry Bead can be from the fly. I have had reports that some waters limit the distance to two inches or less. In practice I find that anywhere between 2 - 4 inches works just great.
